Guidelines for TSC Recruitment July 2024: Hiring practices for teachers will follow the recruitment guidelines that the Commission periodically publishes.
The commission advertises the available positions, and those who are interested apply online via the TSC portal to the position for which they would like to be considered.
To be hired by the Commission, you must meet the following requirements:
- One Must be a Kenyan native.
- Must be 45 years of age or younger.
- Must be listed as a teacher, as stated in Section 23 of the Teachers Service Commission Act 2012.
People who are registered but don’t have Certificates of Registration must include a copy of the online record of their TSC Number and the original bank pay-in slip for teacher registration.
B) Original professional and academic awards, which might include:
- CPE/KCPE/KCSE Certificate
- PTE Certificate
- Diploma Certificate
- Degree Certificate
- School Leaving Certificate
NB: Candidates without academic and professional certificates must show proof that they asked KNEC for approval, and it is the teacher’s job to follow up with KNEC within 14 days.
2.0. QUALIFICATIONS FOR RECRUITMENT BY TSC
2.1. Graduated Teachers
The applicant must have:
- A minimum average grade of C+ (plus) at KCSE and C+ (plus) in each of the two teaching areas, or a minimum of two (2) principles and one (1) subsidiary pass at ‘A’ Level.
- Bachelor of Education degree in two (2) teaching topics.
- Bachelor of Science or Arts plus Postgraduate
- Diploma in Education (PGDE) with two teaching subjects.
- Bachelor of Science with Education
- Bachelor of Arts with Education degrees with two teaching areas
Note: Bachelor of Education holders with a C-plain mean grade and C-plain in the two teaching areas at KCSE who have also taken a diploma or A-Level also qualify.
2.2. Diploma Teacher Applicants must have:
- A mean grade of C+ (plus) at KCSE or its equivalent and at least C+ (or Credit Pass) in the two teaching subjects, or at least one principle and two subsidiary courses at ‘A’ level.
- A Diploma in Education from an approved Teacher Training Institution.
- Diploma Teachers who graduated in 2008 or before with a mean grade of C (plain) or C (plain) in the two teaching areas are eligible.
2.3. Certified TeachersMinimum grade of C-plain on the KCSE and above.
- A PTE Certificate from KNEC
- Mean grade of C- (minus) for people who are deaf or blind.
- Some Needs Education: KSL and Braille are considered a second topic to teach. For example, Biology/KSL and Geography/braille
Notes:
A) Even if a candidate gets a postgraduate diploma in Education and Enhancement, they can’t get a job if they were trained in a field that isn’t in the Kenyan Curriculum.
Applicants with degrees in Economics/Accounting, Social Education, and Ethics can apply for business studies and CRE/IRE jobs, respectively.Diploma teachers in English or other areas can work as teachers or literature teachers.
All applicants must have studied the two teaching subjects at KCSE, except for agriculture, business studies, home science, and computers.
Those who didn’t take business studies and computers in KCSE should get at least a C+ in math.
Those who didn’t study agriculture and home science should have gotten at least a C+ in biology at KCSE.
Graduate teachers should have studied at least eight course units in each teaching field.
If a candidate has a certificate of improvement or a transcript from an approved school, they are qualified for a job.
b) Teachers who are over 45 years old can apply to be hired on a temporary basis.
These teachers will be hired on a 3-year contract that can be renewed based on their success.
Teachers who sign the contract will not be able to work past the age of 65.TSC Employment Requirements: Hiring and Selecting
Applicants for jobs in primary schools must have a P1 certificate.
If you’re interested, you should apply through TSC Recruitment application portal in the county where a job opening has been posted and submit in all necessary academic and professional documents.
Most primary school teachers are chosen through competitive interviews.
On selection day, you should bring the following original papers to the sub-county selection panel:
The National Identity Card
CPE/KCPE certificates, including the first-attempt certificate if the test was taken twice.
PTE certificate.
school or college graduation certificates
Applicants for jobs in secondary schools must have at least a Diploma in Education Certificate.
Please remember that The Teachers Service Commission only deals with TSC County Directors and Boards of Management in this process.
A straight application to the Commission will NOT be looked at.
