TSC scraps Education degree condition for its SRC representative.
The employer of teachers declared on Tuesday that it would no longer require an education degree for its representative to serve on the Salaries and Remuneration Commission.
The Teachers Service Commission included a general degree as a requirement in an updated public notice that was published in Mygov, a state newspaper that collects government jobs and bids.
This implies that Kenyans are no longer restricted to have a bachelor of education degree and can now apply for the position with any university degree.
TSC excluded hundreds of other degree holders by limiting applications to graduate teachers exclusively in an advertisement published in the same newspaper on February 27.
The most recent modification, which was published in the March 5 issue, demonstrates that a graduate instructor is not a prerequisite for representing TSC at the SRC table.
“Pursuant to the provisions of Article 230 (2) (b) (iv) of the Constitution of Kenya (2010) and Section 5(2) of the Salaries and RemunerationCommission Act (2011), the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) invites applications from suitably qualified persons to be nominated to represent T.S.C. in the Salaries and Remuneration Commission,” the notice begins.
TSC announced that it will extend the application window from March 7 to March 25, 2024, in response to the re-advertisement.
The TSC representative at the SRC is still required to meet additional requirements, such as having ten years of expertise in public management, finance and administration, and economics.
A ten-year track record in human resource management and familiarity with labor regulations are further prerequisites.
According to the TSC, a person cannot be nominated if they hold a state post, such as a member of a political party’s governing council or as an MP or MCA.
In addition, one must fulfill the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution and have a noteworthy career in their profession in order to be eligible for the office.
The potential nominee cannot have been dismissed from office due to breaking any laws or constitutional restrictions.
Candidates must submit a two-page curriculum vitae together with their academic credentials and references.
The notification said, “Applications should include academic and professional certificates, testimonials, a two-page curriculum vitae, and contact details such as address, phone number, and email address.”
Article 230(4) of the Constitution states that the SRC’s duties and authority include determining and periodically assessing the compensation and benefits received by all State offices.
The Commission also provides guidance to the federal and local governments regarding the pay and benefits of all other public servants.
