TSC Sets the Guidelines for Recruiting 1,206 Primary Teachers to JSS.
The third group of Primary Teacher Education (P1) teachers who meet the requirements to teach in junior schools will receive deployment letters from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) in May 2024.
The substantial teacher shortage in junior secondary schools—which TSC brought to light earlier this year in January 2024—is the reason behind this approach.
CEO Issues and Reactions
The CEO of TSC, Dr. Nancy Macharia, voiced worries on the acute teacher shortage in junior secondary schools.
There are roughly 56,928 teachers working now, compared to the 99,045 that the schools need. TSC announced 6,000 deployment spots for primary school teachers with a secondary education degree in order to alleviate this gap.
Procedure for Application and Deployment
The deadline for applications to be considered for these deployment slots was March 18, 2024. Early in the upcoming term, those who are selected for service will start receiving posting letters to work at junior secondary schools.
TSC stressed that deployment letters should be expected by competent instructors who applied for deployment.
Sub-County Directors and Primary Headteachers are required to manage the release and reception of teachers as soon as they receive their deployment letters in order to facilitate the payment of teachers’ salaries more quickly.
At the Sub-County level, the County Directors will use the Entry or Exit Reports Module to start the posting procedure.
The assignment of P1 teachers to junior secondary schools with deployment letters will be managed by the TSC Sub-County Directors.
Teachers who will be deployed will complete all entry and exit procedures online. Hard copy documents are no longer accepted or processed by TSC.
When a teacher is kept at the same station, the Head of the Institution is required to submit the junior secondary school’s new entry report and finish the primary school’s exit procedure.
The goal of these expedited processes is to effectively place qualified teachers in junior secondary schools in order to alleviate the severe teacher shortage.
