TSC to Pay Back Overdue Salary Payments to Intern Teachers.
Intern teachers who are over 56,000 may have their wage payment arrears wired to their accounts if the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) loses the case that is now pending about teachers contracts.
This occurs at the same time as the intern teachers have been pressing their employer to refund them for the full amount of their internship income, plus any outstanding balances for the time they have been interns.
On Monday, the majority of intern teachers took to the streets, threatening to sue the commission for defying the court decisions that declared the contract to be invalid.
The instructors are now requesting that TSC take into account paying them back for the time they worked as independent contractors for junior schools under the terms of the Competency Based Curriculum.
Speaking in Nairobi, the representative for junior school intern teachers, Mr. Boniface Omari, suggested that TSC begin compensating the interns for the unappreciated 15 months of labor they had completed.
Omari went on to say that they are currently taking legal action in order to get their arrears for the time they worked for TSC paid in full reimbursed.
Omari claims that TSC currently owes intern teachers more than Sh26 billion in total, which they want demand be paid to them right away.
He also expressed his wish for the national government, acting through the Parliament, to order the TSC to completely comply with the court’s directive that internship teachers who meet the same requirements be paid equally.
According to the intern teachers who organized protests on Monday, May 13, 2024, the government must immediately follow the court’s ruling in order for competent instructors to be paid equally.
Claiming to be teaching the entire curriculum—including subjects like physics and mathematics for which they had no prior training—internal instructors make this claim.
The aforementioned state now appears to complicate the interns’ contract state, following the court order.
While primary interns receive a salary of sh 15,000, their secondary counterparts receive sh 20,000.
Keep in mind that the aforementioned stipend for both teachers is still subject to all applicable taxes and government obligations, including the divisive or controversial housing charge.
