TSC’s Five-Year Teacher Strategic Plan, which ends in 2027.
In an attempt to promote President William Ruto’s Bottom-Up Economic Agenda (BETA), which ends in 2027 as well, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has released its five-year strategic plan.
TSC states that the plan’s objective is to alleviate the teacher shortage in educational institutions by guaranteeing jobs and distributing teachers fairly across public schools.
The CEO of TSC, Nancy Macharia, has highlighted the importance of the teaching service in providing the skills and information required to fulfill the aims and objectives of the BETA project.
The commission intends to hire 211,870 instructors in total over the next five years, according to the agenda. This will assist in satisfying the education sector’s increasing expectations.
TSC CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia presented the TSC Strategic Plan 2023 to 2027 at a gathering held at the Kenya School of Government in Lower Kabete, Nairobi. She stated that an extra budget of Sh134.5 billion was required.
Macharia added, “This strategic plan will be the cornerstone for scheduling and allocating resources, proper support of both the BETA-supported educational goal and ensuring that the commission’s mandate is effectively performed.”
In line with President Ruto’s Agenda, the government hopes to establish a one-year paid national internship program for recent university graduates who wish to become teachers, as well as those from technical colleges, colleges of education, and colleges of medical.
To achieve this goal, TSC will, nevertheless, enhance the teacher internship program and evaluate the internship policy—plans that will both ultimately aid in the implementation of the Agenda.
The head of the TSC also announced plans to create an Institute for Teacher Support and Professional Development. This move is expected to help the commission detect problems and potential hazards while also providing practical remedies.
Additionally, the committee will create and implement a framework for affirmative action in teacher management.
Additionally, this is intended to guarantee fair recruiting and deployment procedures at the entry level and to comply with UNESCO’s teacher deployment practice.
