TSC’s New Guidelines for the Deployment of P1 Teachers to JSS.
In order to assign 1,206 P1 primary school teachers to junior secondary schools (JSS), the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has released comprehensive guidelines that specify new grade levels and stringent conditions.
The P1 teacher deployment program includes the TSC program parameters mentioned above.
An internal note, signed by interim director of staffing Antonina Lentoijoni, was distributed to all TSC regional, county, and sub-county directors. It emphasized the requirements that primary school instructors must meet in order to instruct secondary school students.
The following rules will be upheld during the deployment:
Those who earn bachelor’s degrees in primary education and teach in grades B5 and C1 will all receive appointment letters for Grade C2.
Appointment letters for Grade C1 will be sent to teachers with a Diploma in Education and currently enrolled in Grade B5.
Furthermore, appointment letters for Grade C2 will be sent to educators with a bachelor’s degree who are presently teaching in that grade and who were promoted on or before March 26, 2021.
In reference to further P1 teacher deployment, educators in Grade C1 who hold a diploma degree but have not completed a minimum of three years must submit teacher deployment letters.
Additionally impacted are educators teaching Grade C2 who hold a diploma certificate and educators teaching Grade C3 and higher who hold a bachelor’s degree.
In addition, TSC requested that field officers take into account the teacher’s subject-matter competence as well as their closeness to the deployment site.
Important care will be taken to prevent assigning professors with overlapping topic knowledge while yet aiming for gender parity.
Special Junior Secondary schools will be assigned Special Needs Education (SNE) qualified instructors.
The sent memo highlights the following points:
The P1 teachers who are assigned to JSS are required to keep a valid TSC registration and have a primary school teaching position under the commission.
They should also be proficient in two teaching disciplines, have at least a Diploma in Education, and a minimum KCSE mark of C+.
The aforementioned requirement is applicable to candidates with a variety of educational backgrounds, such as those who have completed the 8-4-4 curriculum, the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC), or A-levels.
Furthermore, these persons are qualified for deployment if they hold a minimum KCSE grade of C (plain) along with a Bachelor’s and Diploma in Education.
Teachers who hold a Bachelor of Education (Primary Option) degree are not taken into consideration.
Every interested party had to have added their name to the roster that was shared from headquarters in order to indicate their interest.
The TSC Sub-County Directors will authorize the teacher deployment communication for educators working inside a certain sub-county.
