TSC’s Newly Revised Teacher Recruitment Guidelines, Qualifications, and Requirements.
The rules for hiring new instructors have been updated by the Teachers Service Commission, or TSC. These rules take effect whenever an advertisement is published and a competitive interview process is required to fill a position.
As a result, it is important that everyone who is applying for a TSC teaching position and everyone else who is participating in the hiring process thoroughly read these rules.
All applicants, as per Section 23 (1) of the Teachers Service Commission Act Cap 212, must be registered teachers, according to TSC.
In order to prove that they submitted an application for registration, those without registration certificates must affix a printout of their verified status.
Those who do not fulfill the registration requirements, however, will not be eligible for recruitment. When requesting a confirmation of their results from the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), applicants must include the address of the County Director who received their application.
Candidates who fit the requirements and are employed by other government departments may submit an application.
The application must be sent in person to the Secretary Board of Management of the relevant institution, with a copy sent to the TSC Sub-County director’s office as well.
Heads of Institutions are required to acknowledge applications in writing as soon as they are received. Heads of Institutions should notify individuals who do not fulfill the shortlisting criteria as soon as the procedure is complete, giving a detailed explanation.
For convenience, the TSC Sub-County Director will gather and present a list of all applicants from each institution during the interview. Notification boards at the County, Sub-Counties, Zonal, and Institutional offices shall bear the date, time, and location of the interview.
At least seven days prior to the interview date, heads of institutions should send SMS (short messaging service) communications to each applicant on the short list. To guarantee that all applicants are informed of the date, time, and location of the interview, this clause MUST be properly followed.
Equal opportunities should be extended to all applicants, regardless of their gender, disability, ethnicity, or home county. In the event of a tie, though, the following factors will be taken into account in the following priority order:
- Applicants with disabilities
- Age of the applicant (44-45 years) with previous teaching experience of three years and had not worked with the Commission previously
- Quality of certificates presented i.e.; higher aggregate KCSE grade should first be considered. If the applicants tie at the aggregate grade, the subject grades should be used
- Preference will be given to applicants who have not been previously employed by the Commission. The names of interviewed applicants ranked in order of performance during the selection process for each vacancy (Appendix iii) will then be submitted to the Commission
