Two students die, one injured in Gatundu North road accident.
Two families from Kanjuku village in Gatundu North, Kiambu County, are in deep grief following the deaths of their two children in a traffic accident one day before they were scheduled to return to school following an extended break.
The 17-year-olds Jane Mugure and Francis Muiruri perished when the motorcycle they were riding on along the under-construction Mang’u-Flyover Road was struck by another motorcycle that was traveling too fast, pushing them in the direction of another moving vehicle.
At Kanjuku Secondary, the fatalities were in forms three and four.
Another student riding the unfortunate motorcycle, Brian Mburu, almost avoided death but sustained minor injuries.
Third victim made it out alive
Mburu said he took the deceased from their house to visit a friend who lived in a nearby area while speaking to reporters in Kanjuku village.
Following their stay, they planned to have some adventure at the Kariminu II dam before returning home, which is when the catastrophe happened.
“After that, I passed out, and when I woke up, I saw my friends laying in the road. Mburu said that although Mugure appeared to be seriously hurt, Muiruri was talking.
Maritha Wairimu, Mugure’s mother, is still processing the unexpected loss of her final child at home. She claimed that the anguish is intolerable because the violence took her daughter’s life and bright future.
“She was the last child I had, and I had great expectations for her. She was a well-behaved child who dedicated her time to her studies with the hope of advancing them soon. “It hurts so much to be without her,” she sobbed.
Mugure’s brother Joe Mwaura claimed that they had to make the arduous trek to Thika Level Five Hospital since neither the Mubao Health Center nor the Igegania Level Four Hospital had any medical personnel available to treat them.
