Under the New Deal, 100,000 Teachers Will See Pay Increases in July.
Under the New Deal, 100,000 teachers will receive pay raises in July. The hiring, compensation, and recruitment of educators for a range of job categories, including internships and permanent positions, are significantly influenced by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC). Regular compensation is earned by teachers, who also receive additional allowances.
Additionally, the commission oversees the tracking of all promotions, transfers, and disciplinary actions that occur within the teaching profession. It guarantees that any matters affecting educators are settled promptly and effectively.
For July 2024, most teachers anticipate receiving a raise in compensation. This boost is particularly significant for permanent employees because they have already begun planning for the upcoming round of pay adjustments, which is scheduled to begin in July 2024.
The Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) contains the terms and conditions for the pay increase. The TSC and the teachers unions just inked an agreement.
But it’s important to keep in mind that not all educators will benefit from this much-needed boost. The first wage adjustment plan phase and employment by July 2023 are requirements for qualifying.

The parliamentary budget committee has provided the TSC, a branch of the Ministry of Education, with a sizable funding allocation of sh 369.94 billion. This allocation shows a strong commitment to education and is pending final approval.
The full set of Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA) for 2021–2025 will be executed with part of this money.
The agreement demonstrates a determined attempt to raise teacher compensation and working conditions. This is as a result of the fact that numerous teachers unions signed it. Along with employed teachers, they comprised the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), the Kenya Union of Special Needs Education Teachers (KUSNET), and the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT).
The CBA agreement states that the first round of salary adjustments will start on July 1, 2023. The last phase is slated to conclude on June 30, 2024. Following that, it is anticipated that the second and last phase of the TSC CBA compensation rise will begin on July 1, 2024, and run through June 30, 2025.
Among those who meet the requirements will be all teachers who held a job on July 1, 2023. During this second phase, they will receive preferential treatment with regard to wage modifications. This is a crucial turning point in the ongoing efforts to enhance the welfare of teachers across the country.
