The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has officially opened its application portal for the 2025 university and college placement.
An announcement, made on Friday, March 28, invites the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates to apply for degree, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and Teacher Training College (TTC) programmes.
KUCCPS encouraged all eligible candidates who sat KCSE between 2000 and 2024 to log into the portal and select their preferred courses
“The KUCCPS portal is now open for Degree, TVET, and TTC applications. Target: 2024 KCSE candidates for degree courses and 2000-2024 KCSE candidates for TVET and TTC courses,” KUCCPS announced.
Candidates interested in applying must visit the official KUCCPS portal.
Upon accessing the portal, applicants must enter their KCSE index number, the year of examination, and a password.
KUCCPS advises students to use either their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) index number or birth certificate number as their password.
The application window will remain open for three weeks, with the deadline set for April 21. The application covers 40 public universities, which qualify for government scholarships and higher education funding.
Additionally, 29 private universities are included, though they are only eligible for higher learning loans and not government scholarships. The portal also features 263 public colleges, where students can benefit from both government scholarships and funding.
The 2024 KCSE results revealed that 246,391 students qualified for direct university entry by scoring a C+ or higher, a sharp rise from the 201,133 recorded in 2023. Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, while releasing the results on January 9 at Mitihani House, noted that the figure represented 25.53% of the 965,501 candidates who sat the exam.
Among the top performers, 1,693 students achieved an A grade, compared to 1,216 in 2023, while 7,782 secured an A- (minus). The upward trend was attributed to the revised grading system focusing on mathematics, one language, and the five best subjects. Notably, several students fell below the university entry threshold, with 719,110 candidates—74.47% of the total—scoring between C plain and E.
