Updated Term dates for Second Term Deals A Blow After Today’s Announcement.
The strategy for making up the two weeks lost due to the flooding has been unveiled by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu as the nation prepares for the reopening of educational institutions on Monday, May 13.
According to Machogu, the administration is thinking of adding a few extra days to Term Two, particularly for Form Four pupils.
The purpose of this extension is to give educators and learners enough time to finish the coursework before the Third Term, when candidates take national exams. In order to reduce the number of days that schools are closed, Machogu underlined the necessity of changing the school calendar.
One possible change would be to shorten the August holiday break from three weeks.
The opening date of the school was originally scheduled for April 29, 2024, however it was postponed by one week owing to heavy rains. But because of the flooding, President William Ruto decided to keep the schools closed indefinitely.
Later, this choice was reevaluated in light of forecasts and advisories from the Kenya Meteorological Department.
The Second Term school schedule shows that classes will resume countrywide on May 13, there will be a four-day half-term vacation beginning on June 20, and August holidays will begin on August 5 (however these dates may vary based on Machogu’s pronouncements). On August 23, Term Three is scheduled to start.
